REGIONAL CONTEST ON GOOD GOVERNANCE – CTPBG

The Technical Commission on Good Governance Practices, chaired by Mr. Jesús Rodríguez, calls on the staff of the Auditing Entities of the region of the Latin American and Caribbean Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS) to attend the 2022 Edition of the Regional Contest on Good Governance.

The theme selected for this edition is “Citizen participation in the prevention of corruption,” which arose in response to a real demand from citizens for greater participation in public affairs that is based on the need to control the resources of the Treasury in the face of the increasingly serious acts of corruption and the ongoing economic crises – local and global – faced by countries, which deepen the limitation of resources – always scarce – for the management of the State and, with it, the achievement of the common good, the main purpose on which the governments of the day must focus.

OLACEFS sees citizen participation as a fundamental need for the strengthening of democracy, the fight against corruption, and, therefore, as a strategic ally that can contribute significantly to the process, quality, and impact of institutional control. This has been highlighted in numerous statements that have addressed the role of citizens and civil society, including the Asunción Declaration on Principles of Accountability (OLACEFS, 2009); the Santiago Declaration on Governance, Fight against Corruption and Public Trust (OLACEFS, 2013); the Punta Cana Declaration on the Promotion of Citizen Participation in the Follow-up and Auditing of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – 2030 Agenda (OLACEFS, 2016) and the Cartagena Declaration on the Promotion of the Human Rights-Based Approach in control activities in SAIs (OLACEFS 2021).

Through the Regional Contest on Good Governance, the CTPBG invites reflection on citizen participation in the prevention of corruption and how, from an active role, they can contribute to achieving a greater impact on the work carried out by the Supreme Audit Institutions, convinced that the contributions made by their staff within the framework of this Contest will be an important input to define joint work strategies.

The contest is open to all staff members of Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) members of OLACEFS. The works can be uploaded on the website www.contraloria.gob.gt by entering the “Regional Contest on Good Governance” icon, with the maximum submission date being July 15, 2021, at 3:00 (Guatemala time).
