Within the framework of the development of the Coordinated Audit on Gender Violence, which is led by the Working Group on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination (GTG) of OLACEFS, the webinar days that are part of the training plan for this important work begin this coming Tuesday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Santiago, Chile (UTC-4).
In this first session, a webinar will be held on the “Phenomenon of Gender-Based Violence” where all the audit teams that are part of the SAIs that make up the Audit and interested parties, will be able to know a little more about this scourge and its multiple manifestations.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights in the world, a type of violence that has serious physical, economic, and psychological consequences for women and girls, both in the short and long term, by preventing them from participating fully and equally in society.
The conditions that, at the time, generated the pandemic – confinement, restrictions on mobility, increased isolation, stress, and economic uncertainty – led to an alarming increase in violence against women and girls in the private sphere. That is why the work to be carried out in this audit is of utmost importance for the region as it will analyze the state response to the prevention, punishment, and eradication of violence against women, between the periods 2019-2021.
This first online seminar will feature the participation of Hillary Hiner, Feminist Historian and Associate Professor at the School of History of Universidad Diego Portales, and Alejandra Valdés, Senior Researcher in the Division of Gender Affairs, Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), who will invite us to reflect and learn about this issue, which is essential for the work to be developed in the Coordinated Audit on Gender Violence to be fully successful by the 24 participating members (12 full members and 12 associate members).
